Yael Naim was born in Paris but then moved to Israel at the age of 4, her eclectic lyrical mix of French, English and Hebrew along with gorgeous acoustic arrangements make this a gem of an album. She is also an awesome independent musician success story. Together with percussionist David Donatien she spent 2 years in an apartment in Paris recording the self titled album Yael Naim which was subsequently released on independent French label Tot ou Tard. That may have been the end of the story, just another great album released out into the noise of the music world, until Steve Jobs personally chose the song New Soul as the sound track for the new Mac Book Air campaign. The result was huge exposure and the first top 10 hit for an Israeli artist in the US.
