Steve Lawson is a amazing solo bass player (yes they do exist) and a prolific blogger over at stevelawson.net, he is one of the most passionate advocates I have ever met for musicians to go it alone and run all aspects of their musical careers themselves. The words ‘major label’ in Steve’s prescience (unless of course your slagging them off) seem to be like a red rag to a particularly cantankerous bull but his various arguments for the DIY approach have been born out by a busy and varied career creating some really beautiful music – and getting paid for it!

Steve summed up the last decade where his love affair with the internet was born with a great blog post A decade in Music – The Internet and Me. For more great tips and stories about making a living as a truly independent musician, or just to check out some wonderfully beautiful music, check out his blog at stevelawson.net
