There is nothing as effective for getting yourself noticed online than coming up with a good story, when Brad from the band Merchandise was sitting having a pizza and chatting to a friend about how he couldn’t afford to make a music video the idea struck. Why waste lots of money and time? Why not just record it right here, right now using a flip recorder that Andrew Dubber had on him? The result below is not only a cute accompaniment to a great song but the story behind it has captured people’s interest and has even led to local press coverage as well as over 800 hits on youtube within the first 3 days.

Goes to show that sometimes a good idea and a bit of spontaneity goes a lot further than a budget!

One of the most effective promotional tools for an independent artist can be an inventive music video that goes viral around the world. We’ve mentioned loads of examples on this blog before from Oren Lavie to The Get Out Clause to getting a number one hit on You Tube but many independent artists lack the contacts and the ‘know how’ to put a good video together.

Step up to the plate Radar Music Videos. This fantastic website aims to match make video directors with artists and labels and then help promote the result.

“We’re aiming for Radar to become ‘the thing you do’ to commission and promote lower budget music videos” says founder, Caroline Bottomley.

With that in mind, the new site introduces the facility for clients to self-publish briefs on the network, alongside a streamlined matchmaking engine which flags up the most experienced directors pitching on each brief.

To encourage uptake of their service, Radar are offering to take on the legwork of setting up accounts. Labels and independent artists who want a free, no obligation account, just email a contact name to caroline@radarmusicvideos.com
