Plainsong, the self-produced album from Susan Enan was recorded in 5 different countries features guests musicians including Ashwin Sood, Steve Schiltz, Graham Maby and Oli Kraus, with guest vocals from Declan O’Rouke and Sarah McLachlan.

Enan grew up in Cambridgeshire England. After moving to Liverpool to study music she began playing the local singer songwriter scene. During those University years, alongside the great classical composers, she discovered the simple, yet intelligent, folk songs of Woody Guthrie, and a love for film scores. These passions, simple folks songs combined with more complex musical ideas with a visual leaning, have become the foundation for her debut album, with other influences including Peter Gabriel and Tori Amos.

After leaving Liverpool she moved to Northern Ireland and continued to write and record a few small EP’s released locally, but it was the ‘Moonlight’ EP (2003) which began to get more attention internationally. It led to an opening slot on a three month tour with Ohio based band ‘Over the Rhine’ which in turn led to a signing with Nettwerk Management and a move to New York.

In 2006, while demoing the songs for the album, Enan began receiving worldwide attention after her track ‘Bring On The Wonder’ appeared on the second season of the Fox show ‘Bones.’ Due to a large response from the show, the song was also featured on it’s soundtrack two years later.

See our interview with Susan Enan for more of the story behind the album.

Really like these tracks by Jennie Mahood and I really what she’s doing with her internet promotion. This track is part of a series where she is releasing a track a week with an accompanying video. The tracks and videos are pure creative beautiful simplicity and show that you don’t need big budgets and months of production time to creative interesting work. The video for Some Place I’ll Call Home is a perfect accompaniment to the vibe of the song and was simply made by poking a digital camera with a video function into the viewfinder of an old Twin Reflex camera with a black tube in-front of it. The video for Empty Seats and Crumpled Sheets is similarly simple but effective.

I think the weekly release and videos are a great way to keep fans interested and get people excited about future tracks and the evolution of your work. I’m really hoping that these tracks and video maintain the high standard and vibe of the ones we’ve seen so far and start creating some serious internet buzz about this amazing songwriter.

Eric Luoma, former singer and frontman for the alt-country band Bellwether, was recording lo-fi acoustic based songs with his wife, Kari on piano and violin. The recordings made their way into the hands of drummer Chadwick Nelson and Bass player Aaron Lundholm, both veterans of the Minneapolis band the Hangups. Soon, the recording project grew into a full-band effort, and the foundation of Tamarack Mansion was in place. elk honed their northern pop sound by playing shows in and around the Twin Cities opening for bands including Midlake and the Owls.

Their sound is truly a mix between the earnest folk of Bellwether and pop of the Hangups. Fans of Wilco, Vetiver and the Kinks will find a lot to love about elk.

They’re Donna Summer milking cows with The Fall. They’re holding the dartboard while Duran Duran and Magazine play for the world championship. They’re sleeping with Giorgio Moroder’s wife behind his back and are terrified New Order are going to tell him. They’re Cop on the Edge.

Cop On The Edge release their debut EP on Monday 8 February in all major download stores. Recorded in various rooms and cupboards in south and east London and produced by Jim Mellor and Greg Poulter, it’s been described as “a one-inch punch of strange pop escapism” by The Mag.

Featuring Jim on lead vocals and vitriol, Steve on guitar and Greek chorus, Anna on boards and technology and James on drums and cricket, they met at Jim’s birthday party some years ago. After Jim won a Joe Cocker impersonation competition and Steve made Anna cry by re-enacting a Morrissey gig they bowed to the clear omens and formed a band.

I can’t find much info on these guys aside from the tracks they’ve dropped into my dropbox, check out the nicely recorded epics on soundcloud.

From the Myspace Blog
I would rather dip my toe in the freezing artic water and be bitten by a digit eating whale, a whale who perfected the art of digit biting in the dojo of Hakkoda-san, from the fifi master 70 years his senior who so excelled at digit biting that two movies and four computer games have been based on his life including the made for tv movie -Toe the line -starring Brian Dennehy.

The film shown periodically on hallmark always contains at least one advertisement for a Jesus film. A coincidence ? Possibly………. I would rather go to a party and get stuck in the corner discussing drum skins with a footballer who has recently aquired a new kit(top of the range the salesman said),fake a fit and accidentally bite my tongue………..

I would rather not lock the bathroom door when checking my prostrate with the aid of a specially configured cctv system and three mirrors and then be burst in on by my Uncle Tom , he who spread the rumors about me when i was 15 than write a Band Bio.well don’t then Thank you kindly..
